Trying to keep up with each other

NORTON, Mass. – Some groups are better than others.

Consider the three-ball of Zach Johnson, Jason Day and Ryan Palmer on Friday at TPC Boston. In the day’s fourth group off the 10th tee, the threesome combined to shoot 23 under par (Day and Johnson carded 8 under rounds and Palmer was the project at 7 under).

“I made a couple of birdies in a row and felt like I was sprinting to keep up with these guys,” Palmer said.

The group’s best-ball score was even more impressive, with just four holes (Nos. 4, 6, 14 and 16) not birdied.

“I just had to keep up with Zach,” said Day, whose round could have been even better but he bogeyed two holes.
