Two events before playoffs, finals

It’s crunch time for players trying to make the FedEx Cup playoffs.

There are only two regular-season events remaining on the 2013 PGA Tour schedule, this week’s PGA Championship and next week’s Wyndham Championship.

The top 125 players on the points list after the Wyndham advance to the first playoff event, The Barclays. The rest – Nos. 126-200 – are thrown into the brand-new, four-event Tour Finals.

The first event of the Tour Finals is the Aug. 29-Sept. 1 Hotel Fitness Championship at Sycamore Hills Golf Club in Fort Wayne, Ind. The players eligible for the finals will be the top 75 money winners on the Tour money list and Nos. 126-200 on the FedEx Cup points list.

The top 25 on the money list are guaranteed PGA Tour cards for 2013-14, but another 25 cards are up for grabs at the finals.

Right now, there are some big names outside the FedEx Cup cutoff.

Steven Bowditch is the No. 125 bubble boy, but right behind him, only eight pointsback, is Nicolas Colsaerts, a member of the 2012 European Ryder Cup team.

Three-time major winner Padraig Harrington is 128th; Bud Cauley, who was in contention for last year’s Rookie of the Year award, is 129th, and the beleaguered Vijay Singh is 141st.

Other notables: No. 137 Tommy Gainey, No. 139 Ricky Barnes, No. 142 Ben Kohles, No. 147 Trevor Immelman, No. 158 Ryo Ishikawa, No. 159 Davis Love III and No. 173 David Toms.

A few of the players who are currently clinging to one of the last available spots: No. 112 Erik Compton, No. 115 Camilo Villegas, No. 117 Aaron Baddeley, No. 119 Martin Kaymer and No. 124 Ben Crane.

The top 10 on the points list should be in good shape to advance to the 30-player Tour Championship: Tiger Woods, Matt Kuchar, Brandt Snedeker, Phil Mickelson, Billy Horschel, Bill Haas, Justin Rose, Keegan Bradley, Kevin Streelman and Boo Weekley
