Two-time champ Goosen withdraws from U.S. Open

Two-time champion Retief Goosen withdrew from the U.S. Open Thursday, citing a back injury.

The 2001 and ’04 U.S. Open winner also withdrew from the Wells Fargo Championship and The Players Championship due to the same injury.

Goosen’s spot in the season’s second major will be added to the qualifying spots available at the 11 sectional qualifying sites across the U.S., on June 3. The 2013 U.S. Open will be contested June 13-16 at Merion Golf Club in Ardmore, Pa.
