Uihlein no memory of big putt

ARDMORE, Pa. – Peter Uihlein didn’t remember a lot about his clutch putt to turn around the American fortunes in Saturday morning's foursomes at the Walker Cup.

Uihlein made an 18-foot putt for par at the 18th hole to win he and Nathan Smith’s match against Great Britain & Ireland’s Gavin Dear and Matt Haines. They were 1 down with two holes to play and won both holes. The rally was the difference between a 3-1 American lead or 2-2 tie. The momentum carried over into the afternoon singles, which ended with the Americans ahead 8-4.

Uihlein pumped his fist and waved his arms after the putt dropped, but he doesn’t remember.

“I kind of blacked out,” he said.

Uihlein, a sophomore at Oklahoma State, also won his afternoon singles match, defeating Tommy Fleetwood, 2 and 1.

“You’re on a pretty good high and [I] definitely had to settle down for the afternoon match,” Uihlein said.
