Scottie Scheffler is already enjoying the perks of his U.S. Junior Amateur title.
The 17-year-old from Dallas has accepted a sponsor exemption into next year’s HP Byron Nelson Championship, scheduled for May 15-18 at TPC Las Colinas in Irving.
Last Saturday, Scheffler defeated Davis Riley, 3 and 2, in the 36-hole final at Martis Camp Club in California. The back-to-back Texas state high school champion has given a verbal commitment to play for the Longhorns in the fall of 2014.
Scheffler seems to be following the path already established by fellow Texan Jordan Spieth, who was first given an exemption into the Nelson in 2010 at age 16. He has now played the event three times.
