OAKMONT, Pa. – Play was postponed at approximately 4 p.m. Friday at the U.S. Women’s Open with storms rolling over Oakmont Country Club.
The second round is scheduled to resume Saturday at 7:30 a.m.
After the cut is made at the conclusion of the second round, the third round will begin with threesomes going off two sets of tees. The third round is expected to begin Saturday about 2:30 p.m. with the leaders going off about 5:45 p.m. The plan is for the third round to resume Sunday at 7:30 a.m.
There will be re-pairing before Sunday's final round but players will once again go off in threesomes on two sets of tees.
'We feel we can finish by 6 p.m. Sunday,' said Mike Davis, the U.S. Golf Association's senior director of rules and competition
The second round was called with just 57 players having completed their rounds in the field of 155.
Cristie Kerr and Brittany Lang are the leaders in the clubhouse at 1-over 143, but more than half the field will finish out the second round with what will likely be better scoring conditions than Kerr and Lang faced.
'The golf course will definitely be ready but obviously softer,' Davis said. 'Scoring conditions will be a little better, but the course will play longer.'
The forecast is for sunny, dry and cooler weather on the weekend.
