Villegas and Casey come off the DL

The first playoff event was a card shy of a full deck, with the pre-tournament WD of Paul Casey who was still nursing an injured rib muscle. Camilo Villegas, the FedEx Cup runner-up last year to Vijay Singh, followed Casey to the DL after the first round in New Jersey with an ailing left wrist.

Sources inside both camps said on Tuesday fans in Boston should expect to see Villegas and Casey at the second postseason stop this week.

Casey’s manager with IMG Guy Kinnings said the Englishman was at TPC of Boston on Tuesday and hit golf balls to test the injury, which he sustained in July at the British Open. Kinnings also said treatment on Casey’s injury has progressed well.

Casey is 27th in FedEx Cup points and could delay his return until next week’s BMW Championship, but he would likely drop out of the top 30 if he didn’t play and not qualify for the Tour Championship.

Villegas’ sports psychologist Dr. Gio Valiante said the Colombian withdrew from last week’s Barclays after Round 1 to rest the injury and prepare for a final playoff push. Valiante said when he talked with Villegas on Monday he was looking forward to this week’s Deutsche Bank Championship.

Villegas dropped from 35th to 50th this week on the FedEx Cup points list and would be in danger of falling out of the top 70 and lose a start at the BMW if he misses the Deutsche Bank Championship.
