The Volvo World Match Play Championship is moving from Spain to a course in Bulgaria that has been dubbed the “Pebble Beach of Europe.”
The May 16-19 event will be held at the Thracian Cliffs Course, a Gary Player-designed track in Kavarna, Bulgaria. According to a European Tour release, the course is “framed by rugged coastal cliffs and the vast blue of the Black Sea, which can be viewed from each and every hole. Thracian Cliffs is arguably one of the most dramatic golf courses on earth.”
The Match Play has been held at Finca Cortesin in Spain for the past three years. Nicolas Colsaerts is the defending champion.
Though the 2013 edition, featuring 24 players, will be held at Thracian Cliffs, the tournament site will rotate “between a few very special venues,” according to the release, and those venues will be announced at a later date.
