Walker Cup forecast Rain and wind

ARDMORE, Pa. – Great Britain & Ireland should have loaded up with more Scots.

It’s cold, wet and windy here at Merion Golf Club, site of this weekend’s Walker Cup matches. The GB&I’s team of 10 players includes seven Englishman, two players from Scotland and an Irishman.
The Americans reached just six holes in practice rounds Friday morning before the miserable weather arrived. Dressed in a bucket hat and rain gear, two-time Oklahoma State All-America Rickie Fowler stepped into the media room looking as if he was dressed for the British Amateur.

The high so far today is 64 degrees, but it feels a lot colder with the unrelenting rain and wind gusting up to 32 mph. There is a 40 percent chance of showers again Saturday with the forecast clearing up for Sunday. Merion plays just 6,846 yards but will play a lot longer in soggy conditions. Still, these greens don’t figure to be quite so diabolical as soft as they’ll be. Players should be able to attack most pin placements.
