Walker qualifies for first British Open

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS, W. Va. – Jimmy Walker wasn’t pleased about a final-round 71 that prevented his first career win at The Greenbrier Classic, but there was a positive to come out of performance.

His four-way tie for second place moved him up to 17th in the FedEx Cup standings, securing a place in the upcoming Open Championship for the first time in his career.

“Yeah, that's great,” he said after the round. “I've never played the British. I hear Muirfield is pretty awesome, so I'm excited. I'll get ready.”

Four other players also received exemptions into the Open Championship field based on their FedEx Cup ranking after this week. Billy Horschel, Boo Weekley, Russell Henley and Harris English will also be making the overseas trip.

The only other way for a player to earn a spot into the field is to win this week’s John Deere Classic.
