Wardrobe key at WGC

DORAL, Fla. – Hunter Mahan played his first 11 holes in 7 under par at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship before darkness halted the first round. Early Friday he played his next seven in 1 under. Both halves of his first round were equally impressive he said following his wind-whipped finish.

Mahan is pacing the field at 8 under par on a cold and windy day. So cold and windy, in fact, Mahan was sporting a skullcap, a rarity at the south Florida stop.

“Luckily it was just stuck in my bag and I saw it in my locker this morning and figured it would be appropriate,” he said.

Curiously, Martin Kaymer, two shots behind Mahan, didn’t go with his now-famous buff on Friday, “It is buff weather but I have a turtle neck on,” he smiled.
