DORAL, Fla. – Bubba Watson withdrew from the WGC-Cadillac Championship 20 minutes before his first-round tee time complaining of flu symptoms.
Watson ambled slowly onto the practice range Thursday morning, made a few warm-up swings, hit one ball and then left, wishing Ian Poulter good luck as he departed. He was scheduled to play in a marquee pairing with Poulter and Dustin Johnson.
Watson will receive last-place money ($39,000), but it will be donated to a charity of his choice. The money will not count on the PGA Tour money list. This is Watson’s second withdrawal in a month. He withdrew from the Northern Trust Open with an oblique strain.
