PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The heavy rains that hit Locust Hill Country Club Tuesday have softened conditions considerably for Thursday’s start of the LPGA Championship.
“The fairways are very narrow, the rough’s thick and the greens are small,” Morgan Pressel said. “It’s set up as tough as I’ve ever seen this course. There’s a premium on accuracy.”
Soft conditions will help long hitters hold fairways, but the penalty for missing will be more severe with the soggy rough more penal. It will play 6,506 yards as a par 72.
“You miss a fairway, and you are chipping out,” Paula Creamer said.
The forecast calls for a 60 percent chance of rain Thursday morning with no chance of rain Friday and scattered showers on the weekend.
