PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Hall of Famer Karrie Webb was perplexed by the question.
Asked by a local reporter on Saturday at the Wegmans LPGA Championship why golf still matters to her at age 37, after all she has accomplished, she didn’t really understand the question.
“When Phil Mickelson was 37, do you think people asked him that?” Webb said. “Tiger Woods is 36, and nobody is asking him that. I still have the same drive those guys have.
Webb equaled the low round of the championship with a 4-under-par 68 in the third round at Locust Hill Country Club. She will open Sunday one shot off the lead. She won at Locust Hill in ’02 and ’99, when it was host to regular tour events.
Though Webb has won seven major championships, she said she wants to win one now as much as she ever has. She has won 38 LPGA titles. She won twice last season. She won her last major at the Kraft Nabisco Championship in ’06.
