Woods made his first birdie of the day at his fifth hole, the 218-yard par-3 14th. He rolled in a 15-foot putt to get to 1 under for the round and 1 over for the tournament.
The birdie came after Woods squandered a good chance for birdie at his fourth hole. He ripped a 330-yard drive down the middle there.
'Longest drive here so far this morning,' the ShotLink operator there said..
But as has been the case with Woods' game of late, another piece gave way. With just a wedge needed to set up birdie, he inexplicably came up short, in the rough in front of the green. He dropped his club and slumped in disgust with his hands on his knees. It was his first missed green of the morning. He did save par there.
