Weekend at Jacks

DUBLIN, Ohio – One of the more distinct happenings during Memorial week, after the Frosty machine in the press dining area and copious amounts of rain, is the Saturday afternoon scene on the Muirfield Village practice tee.

Unlike most weeks, when a missed cut means a mad dash to the airport, at the Memorial many of those who failed to advance to the final two rounds linger in central Ohio to play Monday’s 36-hole U.S. Open qualifier at the nearby Brookside and Lakes country clubs.

Among those lingering about Jack Nicklaus’ practice tee as storms approached Saturday afternoon was Stuart Appleby, Ryuji Imada, Jeev Milkha Singh and Jonathan Byrd.
