Weir happy with progress of injury rehab

RSS

Mike Weir is making good progress in rehabilitating his surgically repaired elbow, operated on in August.

“It’s hard to believe but it’s been 12 weeks since my elbow surgery and things are progressing well. In fact, in the last few weeks or so, I’ve starting chipping and putting and on Monday, I actually hit some half sand wedges, about 50 or 70 yards,” the 2003 Masters champion wrote in his blog Friday.

The Canadian said he is hitting every other day, taking a gradual approach to acclimating his body to golf again. The surgery Weir had is geared to repair an injury suffered at the 2010 British Open that never fully healed.

Earlier this season, Weir lost his playing privileges on the PGA Tour. At this point, Weir has not thought about when he can plot a comeback bid.

“I think it’s going to be one step at a time. So when I get back to hitting full shots – which I hope will be around December – I’ll probably head down to some warmer weather and work a little more aggressively on my game and play some rounds,” he said. “Hopefully at that point I can start looking at the PGA Tour schedule.”
