Weir looking for improvements

RSS

AUGUSTA, Ga. – Mike Weir may have lost his fully exempt status on the PGA Tour, but he will never lose his status at the Masters. The Canadian is here for his eighth Masters since winning in a playoff over Len Mattiace in 2003.

While his game is on the mend and he has a new caddie, Weir still can pause for a moment and appreciate the joy of his greatest triumph.

“There are a core group of Canadians who come down every year,” Weir said Wednesday. “Some of them are new, and it’s great to see their face and tell stories. It’s a special place, for sure.”

It’s certainly easier for Weir to look back to better times, but he is still working toward a goal of getting better to take advantage of the 15 or so starts he expects through the remainder of the year because of his status as a past champion.

“Every day, I just want to get a little bit better,” he said. “I keep seeing progress, and I’m building toward next week in San Antonio.”

That said, Weir is not ruling himself completely out this week.

“If you have the putter going, who knows,” he said.
