Well-rested Scott turns in WGC-Cadillac low score

DORAL, Fla. – Adam Scott hasn’t played much golf this year, continuing his routine from last year where he didn’t play much golf this part of the season so he can be fresh for the year’s first major championship.

So Scott, ranked No. 7 in the Official World Golf Ranking, was not on anyone’s radar this week at the WGC-Cadillac Championship. He tied for 10th place at the Northern Trust Open, his first event of the year, then was ousted in the first round of the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.

Here at Doral he was only 2 under par after two days when most of the game’s other heavy hitters were making birdies by the handful. Scott finally fired on all cylinders Sunday and made eight birdies to shoot a final-round 64, the lowest score of the tournament by a shot. He finished at 14 under par.

Scott hopes to carry that same momentum onto the Tampa Bay Championship next week, a tournament he hasn’t played since 2010.

“I felt my game really progressed every day this week and showed in the scores, literally,” Scott said. “It’s good for me going into next week, a course that I think I can do well at.

“It will be a good challenge for me next week to try and get more out of myself.
