Westwood ousted despite new swing coach

RSS

MARANA, Ariz. – Lee Westwood, who split with swing coach Sean Foley last week, already has a new set of eyes to hone his action.

Westwood began working with Mike Walker on Monday. The two spent the last three days working together at Dove Mountain, although the Englishman didn’t enjoy the instant results he would have liked, losing, 5 and 3, to Harris English in the first round at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.

Walker is a disciple of Pete Cowen, who worked with Westwood until the 2012 PGA Championship. Walker had never worked directly with the former world No. 1, but his connection to Cowen could make Westwood’s transition to a new swing coach easier.

“All of our players would say Pete and I sing from the same hymn sheet,” Walker said.
