CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Like thousands of other would-be travelers Lee Westwood’s well-planned holiday was shelved last week as a result of the Icelandic volcano Eyjafjallajokull.
“They closed the airports (in England) two days after I got home and didn’t open them back up until last Thursday,” said Westwood, who had planned to spend a few days with his family in Barbados following his Masters near-miss.
Westwood has also had some issues with his professional schedule lately. When asked why he was unable to land a sponsor exemption into the St. Jude Classic, which is played in Memphis and formerly sponsored by FedEx, the Englishman tugged at the “UPS” endorsement logo on his shirt.
Which would explain why Tiger Woods, a longtime AT&T endorser before the fire hydrant, never played the Verizon Heritage.
