DORAL, Fla. – The WGC-Cadillac Championship’s first round was suspended at 6:17 p.m. (ET) Thursday with darkness falling.
Only 11 players in the 66-player field completed their rounds after a 2-hour and 45-minute weather delay. A fierce thunderstorm blew through Doral in the afternoon, knocking down the 18th hole leaderboard, two television towers, a ShotLink tower and 17 trees.
The PGA Tour announced the suspended first round will resume at 8:30 Friday morning. The second round’s scheduled to begin at 11:20 a.m., as originally scheduled. The weather forecast calls for sunny skies with a high of 74 degrees Friday. The Tour announced Thursday tickets will be good on Friday.
