Wie Obama share more than golf bond

RSS

Michelle Wie and President Barack Obama will have something substantial in common to chat about when the U.S. Solheim Cup team visits the White House Tuesday as part of the team’s reward for its victory against the Europeans last year.

No, it’s not Obama’s “dangerous obsession with golf,” as the New Republic bemoaned last month. Wie and Obama are both graduates of Honolulu’s Punahou School. Wie graduated in ’07, Obama in ’79.

U.S. captain Beth Daniel and her contingent will spend two days together touring Washington, D.C. Juli Inkster, according to LPGA officials, is the only member of the 12-player team not expected to make the trip. Tour officials cited a “family engagement” preventing her attendance.

LPGA commissioner Michael Whan also will make the trip, as will Ping CEO John Solheim, whose parents founded the competition.
