OAKMONT, Pa. – It is a wild third round so far for Cristie Kerr at the U.S. Women's Open.
She had back-to-back double bogeys at the fourth and fifth holes to fall six shots behind the leader, Paula Creamer, then chipped in for birdie at the sixth to pull within five.
Kerr hit her tee shot at the par-3 fifth in the deep fescue left of the green and needed two shots to hack out. At the fourth, she pulled her tee shot left and had to punch out in the fairway. She bombed a fairway wood up in a greenside bunker and chunked out into the rough short of the green on her way to her first double bogey.
Creamer was playing mistake free until her first bogey of the round at the seventh, allowing Kerr to get back within four.
