Williams apologizes, admits 'my emotions got the better of me'

JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – Steve Williams may still be giving his former boss an assist. The New Zealander posted a statement on his website on Wednesday that will likely help defuse his current row with Tiger Woods.

“My emotions following (Adam Scott’s) victory were running very high and at the time I felt like my emotions poured out and got the better of me,” Williams said of his interview on Sunday at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. “I apologize to my fellow caddies and professionals for failing to mention Adam's outstanding performance.”

Woods is scheduled to speak with the media Wednesday morning at Atlanta Athletic Club and Williams’ statement may help quiet the debate. Just don’t expect it to go away entirely.
