CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Mark Wilson figured if he posted a number on a windswept North Carolina day he liked his chances teeing off some three hours before the leaders on Sunday at Quail Hollow.
His quest fell two strokes short, the result of an overly aggressive swing at the last and a rinsed tee shot, finishing at 6 under after a closing 67.
‘I thought if I could get to 8 (under) that would be cool,” said Wilson, who is scheduled for a 8 p.m. (ET) flight home to Chicago. “There’s a 5 o’clock (flight) I was going to get if I can, but I’ll wait now. If someone posts (a lower score) before me I’m out of here.”
