Expected wind shift would lengthen 18th hole

DORAL, Fla. – Although the forecast continues to call for winds reaching 25 mph on Sunday at Doral as the early tee times headed out those gusts had not materialized.

More interesting to those who will try to catch frontrunner Tiger Woods at the WGC-Cadillac Championship was what direction that wind will come from. One caddie pointed out to GolfChannel.com early Sunday that for the first time this week the wind will be coming out of the east, not the west or northwest as it has all week.

The change in direction means players can attack the par-5 first, 10th and 12th holes, which will all be playing downwind, while the demanding 18th hole, which has ranked as the toughest this week with a 4.272 scoring average, will be into the wind.

It’s also worth noting that sunset is at 7:27 p.m. and the leaders tee off at 2:40 p.m., which could leave little room if a playoff is needed.
