PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Luke Donald Disease?
After winning the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in dominating fashion, Donald made it clear Wednesday in the Honda Classic interview room that he didn’t take kindly to the moniker and hopes he’s put an end to any reference to it.
“There’s lots of talk about someone who wrote about ‘Luke Donald’s Disease,'” Donald said. “The disease [is] that I’m satisfied picking up top-10 checks, being happy about that. There’s nothing really further from the truth. I think my desire, my work ethic, is as good as anyone’s out here. What’s important to me is picking up trophies, not checks.”
A writer in the Telegraph, a major London newspaper, used the term a few years ago in describing underachieving players content cashing big checks.
“Hopefully, I got the message across that that’s not Luke Donald,” Donald said. “Luke Donald works hard and is always looking for ways to get better and win as many times as he can.”
