Tiger Woods leads a PGA Tour event after 54 holes for the first time since his last official win at the 2009 BMW Championship. Woods shot a third round of 1-under 71 to sit one clear of Graeme McDowell heading into the final round at Bay Hill.
Leading by three shots on the 15th tee, Woods pulled his drive some 50 yards out of bounds. He made double bogey there and a bogey on the hole prior to cede his lead to the Ulsterman. With a birdie at the short par-5 16th, Woods established the margin entering Sunday.
Ernie Els (67) and Ian Poulter (68) are tied for third place at 8-under par.
Els must finish solo third or better to have a chance of getting into the Masters by finishing inside the top 50 in the Official World Golf Ranking. A solo second finish would assure his spot at Augusta National regardless of how Matteo Manssero finishes at the European Tour event in Morocco.
Charles Howell III (68) and Johnson Wagner (69) are tied for fifth at 7 under.
