Woods to answer questions from fans, not media at Quail Hollow

In an effort to make a more direct connection with fans, Tiger Woods will be fielding questions directly from them ahead of selected tournaments.

Beginning next week at the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow, Woods will forgo his typical pre-tournament press conference to answer questions from fans submitted through social media channels. Woods will answer the questions in a video posted on his website.

'We've been thinking about this for a couple of months now,' said agent Mark Steinberg, according to ESPN.com. 'We wanted to have a little bit more direct interaction with fans, and they've been very good to him over the years. We're probably a little bit behind with social media and this is a way to do that.'

Customarily, Woods has a pre-tournament press conference regardless of his status in the world ranking, as defending champion or the result in his previous start. This new arrangement will not cut out pre-tournament press conferences entirely, but will be employed a few more times through the year.

Woods will continue media availability following each round. He is one of a few players whose time is requested regardless of his play on a given day.

The practice of choosing fan questions over a press conference is unprecedented, but Woods has conducted these types of question-and-answer sessions in the past through Twitter and Facebook.

'It's just a chance to have him interact more with fans,' Steinberg said.
