Woods cracks OWGR top 50 after Aussie top-3

Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods is back in the top 50 on the Official World Golf Ranking. Following his third-place finish at the Australian Open – his best full-field result in two years – Woods improved eight spots to No. 50.

Australian Open champion Greg Chalmers moved up to No. 104 from 215th to start the week at The Lakes.

Singapore Open champion Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño took Woods’ former position on the ladder, moving up 68 places to No. 58 after his playoff triumph. A back injury forced the Spaniard out of action for most of the first half of the season, causing him to drop to a low of 194th in the ranking. Over the last month, however, Fernandez-Castaño has improved 135 places in the ranking.

Playoff runner-up Juvic Pagunsan of the Philippines made a dramatic move to 177th from No. 492nd. He also walked away from the Singapore Open with $666,000.

There was no change among the top four players, but Steve Stricker swapped one spot with Dustin Johnson for fifth to become the highest ranked American player. Phil Mickelson fell one spot to 12th.
