Tiger Woods committed to play in the Wells Fargo Championship Wednesday, according to a release sent from the tournament. Woods later confirmed the news on his website.
Woods, the 2007 winner at Quail Hollow, will make his sixth appearance at the May 3-6 event. The last time he played was in 2010 when he missed the cut.
'It is always great to have our champions come back and we are glad Tiger will join this group and return to Charlotte,' tournament executive director Kym Hougham said. 'One of our goals each year is to attract the game's top players, who are eligible to compete in the Wells Fargo Championship. With the addition of Tiger to the field this is once again shaping up to be one of the strongest fields of the year.'
Aside from Woods (ranked No. 8 in the world ranking), Rory McIlroy (No. 2), Lee Westwood (No. 3), Masters champion Bubba Watson (No. 4) and Hunter Mahan (No. 5) have all committed to play.
