Woods on criticism: 'Part of playing sports'

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Tiger Woods is no stranger to criticism. In fact, he’s downright used to it by now.

The world’s No. 1-ranked player has often maintained that he doesn’t listen to what others have to say about him. On Wednesday, he was asked how that mentality came about.

“I think that just comes with playing sports in general,” he explained. “Most of the time if you play team sports, you're hated half the time you play. Every time you go on the road, and especially if you make it into the professional ranks, half the time and sometimes even half the time at home, depends on your performance.

“I think it's part of playing sports. It's certainly part of my upbringing and having a father who went through some very difficult times and I did as well.”
