Woods earns last-place money at Doral

Tiger Woods in the 2012 WGC-Cadillac Championship final round

In baseball parlance, Tiger Woods went 65 ¼ innings at last week’s WGC-Cadillac Championship, but unlike a major league pitcher that will not count as a “quality start.”

For the week Woods will earn last-place money, about $37,000, but it will not count as official earnings.

As for Woods’ withdrawal, which occurred after he hit his drive on the 12th hole on Sunday, Tour regulations require a player who withdraws mid-round to notify an official immediately, which Woods did, and he must submit a reason for his early exit to the Tour within 14 days.

In a statement Woods said the withdrawal was prompted by an ailing left Achilles tendon.
