Woods to get Augusta sneak peek prior to Masters

RSS

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. – Tiger Woods’ annual schedule may not be set in stone, but he can usually use permanent marker instead of a pencil with an eraser.

Even so, there was some sentiment that Woods could add a tournament this year due to an extra week in between the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Masters. While those two are usually separated by just the Shell Houston Open, the calendar finds them sandwiching the Valero Texas Open this year, as well.

While he didn’t completely rule out playing either of those events, Woods did a good job on Wednesday of quashing any rumors that he may add one to his schedule.

“I definitely will go to Augusta and play,” he said of his plans for that two-week period. “Don't know how many holes I'll play. Sometimes it's 18, sometimes it's 36, but I'd like to get up there and take a look at it. They made a couple little changes here and there. Would like to chart those and get that all situated so that I don't have to do any charting during the tournament week.”

Asked if he’d prefer to have a shorter break from one competitive event to a major championship, Woods shrugged it off as something to which he’s accustomed.

“A break's a break,” he explained. “Always take that little time to get ready, and more than anything, get refreshed and focused, because I've played, usually, a bunch of tournaments in Florida and would like to kind of shut down for a little bit and then gear back up.”
