DORAL, Fla. – Good stuff walking with the Tiger Woods-Phil Mickelson two-ball this morning. At the par-5 eighth hole Woods hit his driver, just the second time all day he hit the big club, left of the fairway and behind a cluster of palm trees 253 yards from the hole.
The ensuing conversation between Woods and his caddie Stevie Williams was interesting:
“You can (layup) left and chip it close (for birdie),” Williams said. “Your chipping is good.”
After nearly five minutes of deliberation, and considering a 5-wood for his second shot, Woods relented. “Alright,” he sighed, “what’s the number to the (fairway) bunker than.”
Woods laid-up and parred the hole after a substandard approach shot.
