ORLANDO, Fla. – For those who dissect Tiger Woods’ every move, the key to his solid week at Bay Hill can be found in his play on the par 5s.
For the week Woods is 10 under on the par 5s. By comparison, at the Honda Classic earlier this month, where he finished tied for second place for his best Tour showing in two years, he was 5 under, although PGA National played as a par-70 layout for the tournament.
Woods ranked 21st on Tour in par-5 scoring last year (4.59 average), a dramatic increase compared to his halcyon days in 2006 (4.43) and 2000 (4.37). This year he’s tied for sixth with a 4.43 average.
