Woods, McIlroy will reprise 1-on-1 match in China

One year after Rory McIlroy defeated Tiger Woods in an exhibition match dubbed the 'Duel at Jinsha Lake,' the top two players in the world have committed to a return to China for a second 1-on-1 match this fall.

According to an AFP report, the match will take place Oct. 28, though a venue has not yet been chosen. In last year's match at Jinsha Lake that was broadcast only on pay-per-view, McIlroy carded a bogey-free 67 to defeat Woods by a single shot.

'Rory and I have played against and with each other a lot over the past few years, and he beat me in China last time so I'm looking forward to playing again,' said Woods as part of a press release. 'We're good friends, but both of us love to win, so I'm expecting more great golf.'

For McIlroy, the announcement comes with the Ulsterman's game a far cry from where it was when the two met in China nine months ago. Since then, he has largely struggled through an overhaul of his equipment, losing the No. 1 world ranking to Woods, who has won four times already this season.

'It's exciting to play against Tiger in this format. We've played together many times in regular four-day Tour events, but it's different when it's just the two of us in an 18-hole battle,' noted McIlroy. 'Everyone knows he's hugely competitive each time he steps on the golf course, so I know he'll want to beat me, just as I'll be very keen to beat him again.'

Though last year's exhibition was marked by rather candid interaction between the two players, that aspect may only increase now that Woods and McIlroy have spent the year as high-profile Nike stablemates, albeit with varying levels of success on the course.
