DORAL, Fla. – Consider it featured pairings to the extreme, or just a good business move. Either way the decision by PGA Tour officials to pair players based on their World Golf Ranking has left fans at the WGC-Cadillac Championship with an embarrassment of marquee groups.
Out just before noon on Thursday off the Blue Monster’s 10th tee will be Nos. 4, 5 and 6 – Graeme McDowell, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson, respectively. It’s the first time Woods and Mickelson have been paired together at the south Florida staple since their classic Sunday duel in 2005.
Just before 1 p.m. (ET) off the first tee will be world No. 1 Martin Kaymer, No. 2 Lee Westwood and No. 3 Luke Donald, who clipped Kaymer in the WGC-Accenture Match Play final two weeks ago.
And if you’re looking for a good undercard match check the 11:41 a.m. time off the first tee – Ian Poulter, Dustin Johnson and Bubba Watson.
