Tiger Woods committed to next week’s Players Championship just past the lunch hour on the East Coast on Tuesday.
Woods, who hasn’t played since he tied for fourth place at the Masters, will be making his 16th start at TPC Sawgrass, but he hasn’t finished better than 40th since 2009. In 2010 and 2011, the current world No. 1 withdrew with injury and he has just one top-10 (eighth in 2009) since his lone professional victory on the Stadium Course in 2001.
Currently, the field for the Tour’s marquee event is at 147 players (although Joe Daley, who won the 2012 Senior Players, does not count against the total field). If the field slips below 144, officials will fill with players not already exempt via the FedEx Cup points list through last week’s Zurich Classic.
