Despite persistent rumors and tournament director Jerry West’s best efforts, Tiger Woods will not play next week’s Northern Trust Open.
Some had speculated Woods would return to Riviera Country Club for the first time since 2006, but the logistics of flying from Dubai, where he is playing this week’s European Tour stop, to Los Angeles followed by a potentially long week at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship never seemed likely.
Some have also speculated Woods would add the Honda Classic to his schedule, which he’s played just once in 1993, especially when he moves into his new home in south Florida. But if he added the Honda and kept his traditional schedule that would mean he would play five events in seven weeks through Masters. Not out of the question, but it’s not Woods’ modus operandi either. Stay tuned.
