SAN DIEGO – On Thursday at Torrey Pines, Tiger Woods said his swing is “getting there” and his opening 3-under 69 was proof of that progress, just not on the North Course’s narrow fairways.
For the day, Woods hit just 5 of 14 of the North’s dry fairways but still managed to find 15 greens in regulation.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen it quite this fast,” Woods said. “Me and Anthony (Kim) talked about it today how these are the hardest fairways to hit on Tour.”
Woods also struggled on the North’s par 5s, failing to birdie or eagle any of them, but was still optimistic following his season-opening round.
“The swing is progressing and I’m happy with the way I played,” he said.
