AKRON, Ohio – It isn’t often Tiger Woods get trumped as the headliner arriving in a city hosting a tournament that he is playing, but it happened here Wednesday.
President Barack Obama made a campaign stop in Akron, addressing supporters to much fanfare in a speech at the John S. Knight Center.
The president got the giant headline at the top of the front page of the Akron Beacon Journal on Thursday morning, start of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational Firestone Country Club.
“Obama tells Akron he fights for middle class,” blared the headline.
On page 6C of the sports section, Woods got his headline: “Woods has his eye on top at Firestone: Tiger may push for world No. 1 with 8th win at friendly course.”
