Woods vs Yang The rematch

SAN FRANCISCO – Tiger Woods and Y.E. Yang will duel again.

They were paired to play the ninth singles match Sunday at the Presidents Cup. Yang defeated Woods head-to-head down the stretch of the PGA Championship this summer.

In another notable matchup, the oldest and youngest players in the field will meet with 49-year-old Kenny Perry playing 18-year-old Ryo Ishikawa.

The way Presidents Cup pairings are made, captains can make matchups, but Fred Couples insists he didn’t intend to pit Woods against Yang.

“They threw us for a little loop,” Couples said.

The way it worked, Internationals captain Greg Norman posted the first name, Camilo Villegas, and Couples countered with Hunter Mahan. When it got down to the ninth match, Norman posted Yang and Couples sounded as if he reluctantly countered with Woods.

Couples said he expected Norman to post Yang earlier and countered with Woods because he didn’t want Woods playing any later in singles.

Yang has a plan.

“I’m going to stick to my game plan,” Yang said. “I’ll have a few tricks up my sleeve.”
