Woods will play in the Memorial

Tiger Woods will play in the Memorial Tournament next week, Golf Channel has learned, giving him a chance to defend his title from last year.

Woods had broken his mold of the past by committing to tournaments earlier this year, something the PGA Tour asked him to do for planning purposes. He committed to The Players several weeks before the event and he’s already said that he’ll play in the AT&T National in early July.

It was expected that Woods would play the Memorial but the neck injury that caused him to withdraw from the final round of The Players earlier this month had put his participation in Jack Nicklaus’ event in jeopardy. Now, he’ll play at Muirfield Village, take a week off, then play in the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach.

'I want to thank everyone for their caring and concern,' Woods said May 12 on his website regarding his neck injury. 'I now need to take care of this condition and will return to playing golf when I'm physically able.'

Woods is also expected to join Jack Nicklaus, Phil Mickelson, Steve Stricker, Rory McIlroy, Kenny Perry, Zach Johnson and Sean O’Hair in the nine-hole Skins Game Wednesday at the Memorial.
