Woods wishes fans could pick more hole locations

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – For the first time, fans will be able to select a hole location at a major.

Tiger Woods only wishes they had the opportunity to pick more than just the final round.

“I think it would have been a little bit more exciting for everyone if that was the case,” he said.

Ironically, that was the same suggestion made by Jack Nicklaus, who won the 1980 PGA here and is hosting the Pick the Hole Location Challenge on the par-3 15th at Oak Hill.

So far, the PGA says more than 55,000 votes have been cast. Fans have until 5 p.m. Saturday to place their vote.

“It’s had an overwhelmingly positive reception, and that’s definitely something we’ll consider going forward,” said PGA CEO Pete Bevacqua of expanding the Challenge in the future. “We didn’t want to do too much, too soon. We only wanted to proceed in a matter if something had a positive effect on the championship.”
