World No 1 plugging along

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – Tiger Woods wrapped up his soggy second round, a 1-under 69 that was dogged by poor putting and miss opportunities. An 11-shot hole with two rounds to go on one of the hardest golf courses created by man or machine is not an impossible mountain and Woods, ever the optimist, saw the fairway bunker half full.

“I have 36 holes of golf and three days to keep plugging along,” he said in a poor attempt at humor as the weather, and threat of delays, continues to worsen.

When it comes to his game, Woods is John Elway. As for the weather, he’s John McEnroe.
