ATLANTA – Ryan Palmer didn’t pause when asked what he remembered from his phone conversation with Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin earlier this month.
“10:58 (p.m.), Monday night (Sept. 6) in my hotel,” he deadpanned. “He said, ‘Sorry, this isn’t good news.’”
Palmer did not get one of Pavin’s four wild-card picks for next week’s Ryder Cup, which made the captain’s phone call particularly difficult considering Palmer’s play the last few weeks.
The next morning Palmer texted Pavin a message, saying simply “thank you for considering me.”
“Just being considered showed me what kind of year I have had,” said Palmer on Wednesday at East Lake. “Now my goal is to play my way onto Fred’s (Couples) team (2011 Presidents Cup).”
