You Oughta Know: Tiger has history on his side

LYTHAM ST. ANNES, England – Brandt Snedeker's 10-under total through two rounds at the British Open was impressive for a number of reasons. With more solid play, Snedeker appears in position to notch his first major title. But Tiger Woods is lurking. And he has history on his side. Here's what 'You Oughta Know' for the third round of the British.

• Brandt Snedeker is the first player since Tiger Woods in 2000 at St. Andrews to play his first 36 holes bogey free. Snedeker has also not hit into one of Lytham’s 205 bunkers through two rounds.

• In three previous starts at the Open Championship Snedeker, who has carded rounds of 66-64, had never carded a sub-par round.

• Snedeker’s 36-hole 10-under total matches the Open record set by Nick Faldo in 1992.

• Woods opened with rounds of 67-67, the eighth time he’s began a major championship with consecutive rounds in the 60s. On the previous seven occasions he went on to victory (2000 and ’02 U.S. Open; ’00, ’05 and ’06 British Open; ’00 and ’06 PGA Championship).

• The weekend forecast for Lytham is for “dry and fine” most of Saturday and “dry with sunny spells” on Sunday and winds gusting to 15 mph on Day 4.

• Four players began the week with a mathematical chance to become No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking, including current No. 1 Luke Donald, Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood and Woods. All four made the cut.

• Phil Mickelson missed the cut with rounds of (73-78). Although he’s missed the cut just twice at the Open, he’s only posted two top-10 finishes at the game’s oldest championship.

• Playing with a replacement caddie, Donald rallied with a second-round 68 and is tied for 11^th.
