Young Restless Review Week 2

No change in the Young & Restless Review’s weekly rankings of the top-10 players under 30 who look most ready to win a major championship:

1.       Rory McIlroy (20)
2.       Anthony Kim (24)
3.       Camilo Villegas (28)
4.       Ross Fisher (29)
5.       Martin Kaymer (25)
6.       Andres Romero (28)
7.       Hunter Mahan (27)
8.       Sean O’Hair (27)
9.       Justin Rose (29)
10.     Nick Watney (28)

Who stepped forward?

South Africa’s Charl Schwartzel, 25, won the Joburg Open for back-to-back European Tour titles. Both victories came in his homeland against fields that weren't exactly stacked with international stars. Fans who have a problem with the Official World Golf Ranking won’t like hearing Schwartzel has vaulted 31 spots to No. 35 in the last two weeks.

Justin Rose showed promising form in his 2010 debut, but, otherwise, it wasn’t much of a showing for the under 30 crowd at the Sony Open in Hawaii. Rose tied for 12th, thanks to a closing round of 6-under-par 64. Dustin Johnson tied for 16th with Marc Leishman and Troy Merritt tying for 20th. No other player under 30 finished inside the top 20.

Who stepped back?

It was a rough start for Rickie Fowler, who shot 75-72 at Sony and missed the cut in his '10 debut. Fowler should be more comfortable playing in the desert this week at the Bob Hope Classic.
